Results:

The result of employing of effective LET approach to the composite NPC plan is shown in Figure 1 . In the top row, a high LET is noted in the oral cavity of the effective LET heat map, and a comparison with the phase 1 and 2 LETs revealed that the high LET in phase 1 is the main contributing cause. Similar, in the bottom row, a high effective LET in the optic chiasm can also be attributed the LET from phase 1 rather than 2. Conclusion: This tool can help the clinician and dosimetrist to better assess and optimize the LET of a sequential boost proton therapy plan. The effective LET computed in the composite plan can potentially be optimized as a future work, to yield a better overall plan quality.
