Conclusion: This study demonstrates that spot order optimization based on a single metric can yield improvements in the FLASH effect that are robust across diverse dose rate definitions and thresholds. These findings support a flexible and metric-independent approach to clinical proton FLASH planning. This increases confidence in optimized dose rate distributions and OAR sparing, even with imperfect knowledge regarding the clinical relevance of each metric.
