An implant in the facial region will contribute dose to the eye. Photons contributing dose to the eye are both primary photons from the source (entering the eye from the outside air) and photons scattered inside the patient reaching the eye. Previous unpublished MC study in our group showed no significant gain using lead shielding on the eye lenses for interstitial nose treatment. This finding coupled with results of Candela-Juan et. al. on contribution of characteristic x-rays from lead initiated this work. The aim is to study the effectiveness of ocular lead shields in brachytherapy treatments in the head and neck region.
