Figure 2. Changes in apoptosis-related protein expression in breast cancer models treated with GLP-1 RA and/or radiotherapy (*p<0.05; **p<0.01 vs. control).
Conclusion: This study demonstrates that combining GLP-1 receptor agonists with radiotherapy offers enhanced tumor control in a breast cancer model. The combined treatment significantly reduced tumor size, improved tissue morphology, and decreased angiogenesis markers such as VEGF-A and FGF-2. Additionally, the reduction in IL-6 and TNF-α levels indicates decreased inflammation, while moderated TGF-β expression suggests less extracellular matrix remodeling. Enhanced apoptotic activity, reflected by increased caspase-3 and caspase-7 levels, underscores the improved cancer cell death. These findings suggest that GLP-1 RAs, in combination with radiotherapy, may provide a promising therapeutic strategy, particularly for patients with diabetes and breast cancer, improving both treatment efficacy and reducing radiotherapy side effects.
