Conclusion: In summary, our data suggest that hypoxic cells radioresistance is not explicitely explained by the oxygen effect. Instead, our data support a model that hypoxic cells acquire a quiescent state and this is linked with higher capacity to maintain cellular fitness even upon reoxygenation.
