Work with other oncology societies
European CanCer Organisation (ECCO)
Value Based Health Care working group (VBHC) This working group was established under the aegis of ECCO, led by Professor Yolande Lievens (Ghent University, Belgium), with the aimof examining value-based healthcare’s application across the cancer care spectrum. In 2019 the group published its paper: Towards an evidence-informed value scale for surgical and radiation oncology: a multi- stakeholder perspective . The article identifies and reflects on existing methodologies for assessing value, and makes the case that adjustments are needed for application in non-systemic oncology treatment.
ECCO holds policy meetings at European level and issues publication that aim to ensure that oncology has a prominent place in the European onco-policy arena. ESTRO contributes to ECCO’s publications and attends its policy meetings.
SIOPE Recommendations for the organisation of care in paediatric radiation oncology across Europe: a SIOPE-ESTRO-PROS-CCI Europe collaborative project in the framework of the JARC
ESTRO has been collaborating with the European Society for Paediatric Oncology (SIOPE) on one of the work packages that is dedicated to paediatric cancer, within the EU Joint Action on Rare Cancers (JARC) framework. It aims to formulate policy recommendations on rare cancers, including paediatric malignancies. in paediatric radiation oncology across Europe: a SIOPE-ESTRO-PROS-CCI Europe collaborative project in the framework of the JARC , which addressed the delivery of treatment that complied with good clinical practice in paediatric radiation oncology with a focus on patient-related care, education and training.
