2. Review of the core curriculum for medical physics experts in radiotherapy
ESTRO School
ESTRO and the European Federation of Organisations for Medical Physics (EFO- MP) have started the review of the core curriculum for medical physics experts in radiotherapy. The last version was published in 2011 and there is a need to adapt the curriculum to the current and future needs of the profession. Recent advances in the field, such as automation, big data analysis and personalised treatments, which require integration of imaging with clinical, genetic and biological data, support the need for a further revision to keep up with this rapid evolving sector, but also to reinforce the scientific role of the medical physicists. For this reason, an ESTRO-EFOMP working group has been established. It involves representatives who have been appointed by the national medical physics societies and ESTRO and EFOMP committee members.
As a first action point, a survey onmedical physics education and training in Europe has been prepared and distributed to the national societies. The main focus of the survey is to discover how education and training are structured in different European countries as well as to what degree the 2011 core curriculumhas been implemented. The latest draft of the curriculum will be presented in 2021.
