Conclusions

Available data strongly suggest that there might be a dose-response relationship for permanent implant brachytherapy of prostate cancers.

- However, one cannot expect this relationship to be a very close one

- a large number of reasons may bias, or even totally hide, the relationship between dose and clinical issues

- The main reasons which may be responsible for such a blurring of the results are the following: - Variations in the prostate contours - Timing of the post-implant CT - The underdose location
