TARGET GROUP This advanced multidisciplinary course is aimed at radiation oncologist and clinical oncologists, dermatologists, Mohs’ surgeons, plastic surgeons, allied health care professionals and other specialists and trainees who have a special interest in non- melanoma skin cancer (NMSC) and would like to update their knowledge in the multidisciplinary management of patients with NMSC. The course may also be of interest to medical physicists and radiographers who would like an overview of the current practice in NMSC. BACKGROUND Recently there has been an alarming increase in skin cancer incidence worldwide, particularly in NMSC. NMSC is the most common malignancy but its public significance is often unrecognised. cancer. Although mortality from NMSC is rare in the general population, treatment of NMSC is becoming a considerable burden for health care services across the world due to rapidly increasing number of new cases, aging population and increased complexity of cases, often requiring a specialist multidisciplinary approach. The course will be interactive and including a variety of teaching methods. There will be also special sessions covering extended content dedicated to Mohs’ and plastic surgery, and skin radiotherapy, brachytherapy and radiobiology for those participants who wish for advanced knowledge in the relevant fields. COURSE AIM This course aims to bring various specialists and trainees in the field of dermato-oncology in order to breach gaps between specializations, increase multidisciplinary understanding and highlight the need for improved interdisciplinary collaboration. The course will be interactive through integration of multidisciplinary lectures and more focused workshops, debates and case discussions. The
faculty includes renowned experts involved in the multidisciplinary treatment of NMSC. It is hoped that the course will serve a vital reference for all professionals involved in the management of NMSC. LEARNINGOUTCOMES By the end of this course participants should be able to: • Understand prophylaxis, epidemiology and pathology of NMSCwith special focus on basal, squamous andMerkel cell carcinoma. Rare skin cancers will also be included. • Discuss advantages and limitations of imaging modalities used for diagnosis and treatment of NMSC • Understand indications and limitations of surgical and non-surgical treatment modalities in NMSC • Design a radical and palliative radiotherapy plan for NMSC • Develop a deep understanding of best practices in NMSC and provide patients with the best possible treatment, skin care advice and follow-up care • Understand challenges of palliative and supportive care in NMSC patients
