Limitations of Randomized Trials for Studying Late Effects of Breast Cancer Radiotherapy

• Old fashioned radiotherapy techniques and little detailed information on regimens, so accurate doses to organs at risk cannot be calculated • Incidence information not usually available for heart disease (and only sometimes for second cancer) • Women at increased risk of heart disease or lung cancer tend not to be included in trials
