Why poor results in SCC with Carbon Ions?

In SCC, a number of genes are up and down regulated differently by photons and by ions: SPHK1 (sphingosine kinase 1) mRNA, promoting tumor cell growth and inhibition of cell death, is over expressed after ion irradiation in SCC cell line (Ca9-22).
