(Dis)advantages of a cyclotron

=> a cyclotron provides:

+ high intensity (Syn-Cycl: high in pulses; average = limited) + accurate and adjustable intensity + continuous beam (Syn-Cycl: pulsed) + fast energy change with degrader

Disadvantages:

- degrader needed - activation - one particle type (protons)
