screened the ferroptosis-related genes among the GBM patients. Gene ontology analysis revealed the functional roles of these risky variants in malignant neoplasm patients.
Results:
After filtering, we obtained genotypes for 311 patients and 311 control subjects of Han ancestry. Manhattan plot for GWAS of malignant brain neoplasms in the Taiwan population as Figure 1A presented more significant SNP population in Chromosome 7 (Chr.7) and Chromosome 20 (Chr.20).
We further analyzed to determine TP53, BACH1, STEAP3, NOX4, HMOX1, SLC40A1, and CP as significant ferroptosis-related genes associated with glioblastoma from Chr.7 and Chr.20 (Figure 1B &C). The combination of MGMT, STEAP3, and CP proved to be a promising gene combination for predicting survival in GBM patients. Interestingly, combining MGMT with STEAP3 (p= 0.0033 to 0.00028) or CP (p= 0.0033 to 0.0016) significantly improves the prognostic accuracy of MGMT (Figure 2).
