General purpose vs dedicated devices

Advantages of dedicated devices should be weighted vs

Impossibility of decoupling TPS, imaging & delivery system (and Oncology Information Systems?) - Highly ‘integrated’ devices designed to work on their own, simple needs (e.g. summing plans) may not have a simple solution

Operational issues

- multiple planning, delivery and imaging systems in the department - Availability may not be as good as for linac. (What are you going to do in case of treatment failures?)
