Imaging for early stage breast cancer

Summary (1) 2 nd. breast conserving surgery & APBI with salvage brachytherapy is a good alternative to mastectomy for the treatment of unifocal in-breast recurence after previous breast conserving surgery & WBI. Probability of recurrence after Re-Lumpectomy + Re-APBI is about 4-10 % - the same as after mastectomy alone !

(2) Side effects are very low.

(3) Further studies are meaningfully to precise / refine the value of 2 nd. Breast conserving surgery plus re-

irradiation in direct comparison with sole salvage mastectomy

Salvage Interstitial brachytherapy is a high effective and safe treatment option for selected patients with in-breast recurrences.
