Rationale for selecting patients

• APBI emerged over the past 2 decades as a new method to deliver more focal RT to only a portion of the breast in a shorter time period

• Some clinical trials initiated to examine the equivalence of APBI to WBI, however many patients were treated before published results

• There was a need to provide guidance for selection criteria and best practices to use APBI also outside a clinical trial
