MRI detected Lymph Nodes close to the mesorectal fascia are not associated with pCRM involvement (Shihab et al, BJS 2010)

• Involvement of CRM by lymph node metastases alone is uncommon (1.3% of all patients in MERCURY series). • Caution when recommending neoadjuvant therapy based solely on an MRI-detected lymph node close to the mesorectal fascia.
