Relevance: Age Profile Skin Cancer

• Between 2 - 3 million NMSC are diagnosed worldwide each year (WHO) • Greatly underestimated • Rapidly increasing in most countries due to aging demographics • The average age of the male population with NMSC = 66.7 years and 67.8 years females (Juszko-Piekut et al, 2013) • Unlike surgery, many patients referred for radiotherapy are older and/or frail • Often present with multiple co-morbidities and/or with other age-related issues or require palliative management due to e.g. advanced or neglected cancer and/or poor PS • Comparison with published series is therefore difficult as surgery often favours younger/fitter patients

Adults age >65 years = 8.5% of the total population in 2015 • projected to increase to 12% by 2030 • and to 16.7% by 2050
