Small bowel toxicity
• Late toxicity • Mucosal atrophy • Vascular sclerosis • Focal ischemia, fibrosis, edema, serosal thickening • Malabsorption, dysmotility • Intestinal obstruction, fistula • Presents clinically 6 months to 3 years after radiation • May lead to: • Complications requiring surgery • Parenteral nutrition • Prognosis is poor
Small bowel toxicity • Radiation enteritis: oedema, hyperemia, stiffness
