ANATOMY OESOPHAGUS
• In clinical practice, most
radiologists and surgeons divide the oesophagus into three parts:
• upper third, from the cricopharyngeus to the superior portion of the aortic arch; • middle third, from the superior portion of the aortic arch to the inferior pulmonary vein; • Distal third, from the inferior pulmonary vein to the gastroesophageal junction
The behaviour and treatment of oesophageal cancer vary with these anatomic locations .
