CHONDROSARCOMA • Arise from embryonal rests of cartilaginous matrix that escape reabsorption during endochondral ossification • Off-midline and originate within the temporal bone and petroclival fissure

CHORDOMA Presumed to arise from remnants of primitive notochord, an embryonic precursor replaced by mesodermal elements to form vertebrae and skull base
