• Gastrointestinal symptoms (peptic ulcers) • Steroid cataract

• Psychiatric side effects (depression, psychosis, insomnia) • Increased risk for infections (e.g. Pneumocystis jirovecii) (particularly in patients who receive radio- and/or chemotherapy)

=> Steroid toxicity may reduce the benefit from other treatment modalities, e.g. radio- and chemotherapy
