WHAT HAVE WE LEARNED FROM CLINICAL TRIALS : EARLY DECLINE AFTER WBRT FOR BRAIN METASTASIS • Two phase III trials in patients with 1-3 brain metastases comparing SRS + WBRT with SRS alone. • A significant decline in learning and memory function at 4 months in patients receiving WBRT ( Chang et al, Lancet Oncol 2009 ). • A significant decline at 3 months in immediate recall, delayed recall and verbal fluency ( Brown et al 2015, Irradiance trial, ASCO 2015 ). • Unknown whether this early decline is associated with long-term and/or permanent decline
