Worst scoring of late morbidities during followup were: 47% with moderate and 13% with severe xerostomia. 13% experienced moderate dysphagia and 6% severe dysphagia. Atrophic mucosa war reported as moderate in 43% of the patients and severe in 2%. Fibrosis of the neck was observed as palpable in 36% and severe in 12% of the patients.

Conclusion:

If patients with lateralised tumours are selected properly, then this treatment technique using IMRT is safe with a relatively low loco-regional failure rate and high disease specific and overall survival at five years. The nodal failure rate in the untreated contra-lateral side of the neck was as low as one percent.
