Results:
A total of 4,076 anal cancer documents were retrieved, including 2,414 articles published in 575 journals classified in 60 WOS categories. Figure 1 shows the distribution of the annual number of articles (TP) and their CPP2021 by year. There is an increase in articles from 45 in 2006 to 176 in 2020 and 162 in 2021. The peak value of TC2021 for an article was 862, and the mean value was 28. The most cited article is a phase 3 trial investigating the role of concurrent chemoradiotherapy in anal cancer, conducted by the “European organization for research and treatment of cancer radiotherapy and gastrointestinal cooperative groups”. 5 Four of the top five prolific country located in the Europe(France, Germany, United Kingdom, and Italy). Compared to the top 10 prolific countries, the Netherlands (84 articles) had the highest CPP2021 of 51 and 47 for their TP and FP, respectively. Radiotherapy and chemotherapy were the most studied therapies and showed similar development trends. Development trends of radiotherapy, chemotherapy, and men who have sex with men in anal cancer research are shown in the Figure 2. Word clusters identified that HPV, HIV, radiotherapy, and men who have sex with men are the most focused topic on anal cancer.
