carcinoma. 4 out of 7 vertebral metastases received 25Gy in 5 fractions.1 out of 16 patients had neurological symptom before radiotherapy in the form of reduced distal power and diminished sensation. Average pain score of 8 before treatment and immediate post treatment pain score being less than or equal to 4. Among the 20 patients, 7 patients completed their 6 month follow up; 9 patients completed their 3 month follow up pain assessment. 4 deaths reported within 3 months post treatment. Paired sample t-test was performed, comparing the pain scores before radiotherapy versus immediately after RT, at 3 months and at 6 months. There is a significant decrease in pain at all three time intervals with P score<0.05, 95% confidence interval. Any new neurological symptoms or worsening of pre-existing neuropathy noted. Incidence of skeletal events are also noted.

Conclusion:

By this study we propose that high dose palliation is an effective treatment option for patients with vertebral and spine metastases in a low resource setting using escalate dose fractionation regimen and provides considerable pain relief.
