with radiotherapy in the same time period. This relationship varied between sub-ICBs, ranging from 29.2 to 49.6 treated tumours for every 100 tumours diagnosed (see Figure 1).
Of all tumours diagnosed in 2020, 156,530 were stage 1-3 at diagnosis. 51,148 stage 1-3 tumours were treated with radiotherapy in 2020 within a year of their diagnosis. Considering just these tumours, for every 100 stage 1-3 tumours diagnosed, 32.7 tumours were treated with radiotherapy within a year of the date of diagnosis. This varied between 25.9 to 40.5 tumours treated with radiotherapy for every 100 diagnosed across sub-ICBs (Figure 2).
Conclusion:
Radiotherapy demand models have estimated that 40-50% of patients with cancer will require radiotherapy.(3,4,8 – 10) Whilst valuable for service planning these models don’t account for factors beyond the patient’s cancer, for
