example co-morbidities or alternative treatment modality availability (e.g. surgery). We demonstrate that for every 100 tumours diagnosed in England in 2020, 38.2 tumours underwent radiotherapy. This number is slightly lower than the demand models suggest is optimal, but it is unclear if the covid-19 pandemic may have impacted on radiotherapy utilisation in this period. Importantly, variation in utilisation is seen across the country. Further work is now required to consider the possible impact of covid-19, assess utilisation of palliative radiotherapy, better understand radiotherapy utilisation across different cancer sites and demographic groups and, in parallel, examine the causes of observed geographical variation. These analyses can then inform future radiotherapy policy at both national and regional levels.
