Purpose/Objective:

Radiotherapy (RT) is a crucial treatment modality for nearly half of all cancer patients, and the type and severity of treatment-related side effects often depend on the specific location of the cancer. Indeed, evaluating and effectively managing these toxicities holds the potential to significantly enhance the overall quality of life for older patients undergoing RT. This research study is focused on a comprehensive assessment of late-onset toxicities in individuals aged 70 and above who have received RT, aiming to provide insights into the unique challenges and opportunities for improving the care and well-being of this population.

Material/Methods:

We included individuals aged 70 years and older with a 1-year follow-up after undergoing RT. Data were collected through a questionnaire, and toxicities were classified according to the Radiation Therapy Oncology Group/ European Organisation for Research and Treatment of Cancer (RTOG/EORTC) scale. Substantial late toxicity was defined as RTOG/EORTC ≥2 or the presence of 2 or more reported symptoms. We conducted a descriptive analysis of sociodemographic and health variables in relation to substantial late toxicity following RT.
