Interdisciplinary - Education in radiation therapy
ESTRO 2024
Conclusion:
The training and assessment of residents in RO/CO are heterogeneous among UEMS countries. The majority of respondents reported having a method for assessing residents' knowledge during their training. Most respondents would support a European certification in RO/CO. This last finding needs further investigation among residents and training supervisors in RO/CO in the UEMS countries.

Purpose/Objective:
To determine whether the introduction of a European examination in Radiation Oncology and/or Clinical Oncology (RO/CO) would be of interest to training supervisors (TS) and residents in the countries of the European Union of Medical Specialists (UEMS).
Material/Methods:
A 7-question survey for residents and a 6-question survey for TS were sent to residents and TS from UEMS countries via UEMS RO/CO delegates and national societies. Both surveys were open from March 2023 to September 2023. The questions focused on their interest in a European examination, their preferred methods of assessment, their recommendations regarding the timing of the examination during the training, and their preferred language. A descriptive statistical analysis was performed using frequency tables (number and percentage).
Results:
We collected responses from 667 participants, 389 residents (58.3%) and 278 TS (41.7%) in RO /CO from 20 UEMS countries. The majority of residents (n=336 ,86.8%) and TS (n=230 ,83.0[MJ1] %) were in favor of a European examination in RO/CO. Seventy-four percent of residents (n= 270) and 71.9% of TS (n=190) indicated that knowledge should be tested with a multiple-choice questionnaire (MCQ). Most residents (n=312, 82.8%) and most
