International Atomic Energy Agency, Applied Radiation Biology and Radiotherapy, Vienna, Austria
Purpose/Objective:
Quality palliative radiotherapy (RT) should be effective, timely, equitable, efficient, safe, patient centred and integrated with other aspects of care. Efficiency and integration require the optimal use of available resources and coordination between available clinical services regardless of resource level.(1) International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) conducted a systematic review on models of palliative radiotherapy delivery as described in the literature to identify common features that contribute to efficiency gaining and timely delivery with the overarching goal of quality of palliative radiotherapy improvement. Findings of the review can be useful for countries with high volume of palliative radiotherapy cases and limited capacity, as well as for those willing to optimise delivery of palliative radiotherapy.
