Figure 1: The major seven steps identified for Clinical Workflow dedicated to reirradiation.

Conclusion:

A dedicated reirradiation process, along with effective and standardized communication between the different disciplines involved in reirradiation, is crucial to guarantee the safety of retreatment. Seven major steps within the reirradiation workflow have been identified by an interdisciplinary group of experts in the field of reirradiation. These points give the working group a structure for developing detailed guidelines and harmonizing practice.

Purpose/Objective:

While it is well-established that patient comorbidities are associated with cancer stage at diagnosis, the existing body of evidence on the extent and direction of this influence remains notably inconsistent (1-3). In this study, we assessed the relationship between cancer stage and comorbidity levels in a large, diverse pan-cancer real-world patient population undergoing radiotherapy or other treatments, aiming to provide evidence on the impact of comorbidity on cancer stage at diagnosis.

Material/Methods:

We identified 97,034 recorded Adult Comorbidity Evaluation 27 (ACE-27) scores between 01/01/2010 and 15/12/2022 for cancer patients treated at a large cancer center. A total of 80,212 unique patients met the study's inclusion criteria, which required complete International Classification of Diseases 10th Revision (ICD-10) codes, ACE-27 scores, age, gender, treatment received, and deprivation index records. Structured data were collected from the hospital's electronic patient records under UK ethical approval (ethical approval REC reference: 21/NW/0347).
