Figure 2.a. shows examples of obtained dose distributions. In all displayed plans, the EMBRACE-II aims were achieved. Distribution shapes reflect differences between customizations. E.g., customization 1 leads to a non contiguous 200% isodose line to maximally spare the bladder and rectum, while satisfying target coverage aims. For customizations 2, 3, and 4, at least one plan in each respective set of plans was judged clinically acceptable. Differences between the pear ROI and contiguous volume become considerable when a needle is used instead of the intrauterine applicator in terms of dosage (Figure 2.b.). The pear-shaped ROI forces a pear shape around the applicator, whereas the contiguous volume enables placement of the high-dose region at the target.
