used Timmerman data to demonstrate but we recommend that hospitals fit their clinically used constraints (e.g. with the LQ model) and that the fit be used for dose conversions to avoid serious dose errors. Secondly, we derived a formula to convert single course dose constraints to re-irradiation constraints for changes in accepted complication risk or in treatment accuracy. A 10% increase in risk or a 5% increase in accuracy roughly corresponds to a 5% increase in constraint. To further improve uniformity, we suggest that all re-irradiation studies report factors R, P, and C (Eq.1).
Keywords: dose constraints, re-irradiation
