Conclusion:
We demonstrated that a radiomic model based on routine PET/CT imaging can predict the overall survival of metastatic melanoma patients treated with immune checkpoint inhibitors. By combining extensive molecular information with radiomic signatures, we were able to describe immune cell composition of the “low risk” and “high risk” groups identified by this model. This approach improves our understanding of the biological foundation underlying clinically relevant radiomic data and facilitates model interpretation. Our findings strengthen the case for the clinical value of non-invasive image biomarkers in early risk-stratification of metastatic melanoma patients.
