ESTRO 2024 - Abstract Book

S5296 ESTRO 2024 spectroscopy (MRS) imaging was completed on days 26-27. Following this, the sacrificed rats' brain tissues underwent biochemical analyses (MDA, TNF-α, NrF-2, BDNF, GAD-67), and hippocampus and cerebellum regions were examined histopathologically. Radiobiology - Normal tissue radiobiology

Results:

In the brain-irradiated group, levels of MDA and TNF-α increased compared to the healthy group, while levels of NrF-2, BDNF, and GAD-67 decreased. In the group treated with oxytocin, it was demonstrated that levels of MDA and TNF-α decreased compared to the irradiation group, while levels of NrF-2, BDNF, and GAD-67 increased. In the irradiation group, the number of neurons in the CA1 and CA3 regions of the hippocampus and Purkinje neurons in the cerebellum decreased compared to the normal group, while the number of GFAP immunostained cells in these regions increased. In the oxytocin group, it was observed that the number of hippocampal CA1, CA3 neurons, and cerebellar Purkinje neurons was preserved compared to the irradiation group, and the number of GFAP immunostained cells decreased (Figure 2).
