Conclusion:
Despite NMOCs being frequently reported in diagnostic radiology MRI examinations to aid tissue visualisation, no empirical research has been published regarding NMOC use in MRI for radiotherapy planning or treatment. In vitro experiments indicate potential candidates such as yerba mate and pineapple juice might result in a hyperintense luminal signal on T1w imaging, and a hypointense luminal signal on T2w imaging, and warrant further investigation in vivo. This is currently being evaluated in a mixed-methods prospective trial open for recruitment; MRI scans with respiratory immobilisation to contour radiotherapy organs at risk using oral contrast of hypo- or hyper-intense fluids including the patient perspective (MICROCHIPS).
