ESTRO 2024

Immediately before of the first treatment fraction, all patients were trained using Align RT and visual feedback system Real Time Coach (RTC) during the first treatment session in the treatment bunker (figure 1).

A subset of patients was also given an extra training session previously to CT simulation and after the medical visit. This training session was performed on the treatment bunker (if feasible) or in an already set up room for this purpose. A portable coaching system was used, modified from a real-time position management system (RPM from Varian) and set on a trolley cart (figure 1). During this coaching session patients get used to the treatment room, the visual feedback system and the expiration technique for improving EBH stability. Half of the patients (11 sessions) included in the study were coached only with the AlignRT system on the first treatment session (group 1). The rest (11 sessions) were coached previous to CT simulation plus AlignRT system on the first treatment fraction (group 2).

The overall fraction treatment time, defined by the interval between CBCT acquisition and the end of the delivery of the radiation beams, was recorded both for groups of patients.

Results:

Figure 2 shows the fraction time for patients coached only with the SGRT system on the first session (group 1) and patients coached with the additional coaching session previous to the CT simulation and AlignRT system on the first fraction (group 2).

Patients assigned with only one session of training had a longer median time per session than patients trained with two sessions (54 min, range 19-130; vs. 30 min, range: 19-46)
