Confidence in problem solving

RTT’s were invited to rate the overall training and assessment process and provide feedback on the modules.

Results:

21 RTT’s from 4 of the 5 centres participated. In general terms, it can be seen from the results that a positive learning gain was observed in all aspects of the training and assessment, particularly an increase in confidence in problem solving.

Assessment demonstrated that the most commonly incorrectly answered questions were those related to theory, whilst anatomy questions were answered correctly.

There was an overall positive response to the content and delivery of the training and assessment, and RTT’s enjoyed the modules and found the format easy to follow. Assessors agreed that the training was appropriate for new RTT’s but did not cover sufficient problem solving for senior, team leader RTT’s. Feedback supported the need for more engaging materials and an easier format for use across multiple centres.

Conclusion:

The VIP provided the RTT’s with a learning gain. Therefore, the modules within the VIP are appropriate to support the learning of newly qualified Therapeutic Radiographers in achieving their IGRT competencies. Further study is required to assess the implementation of the VIP within the London centre setting. Feedback will be used to further develop a newly acquired website for hosting, assessing and maintaining competency records.
