The patient diagnoses within the breach group were: Meningioma (6.1 weeks – It was noted this patient had a CT instead of MRI due to severe claustrophobia), GBM (31.0 weeks - had CT Brain following MRI which was 11.9 weeks prior to XRT), Meningioma (20.0 weeks), and GBM (10.3 weeks).

Conclusion:

Most patients had MRI scans within the 6-week target, either prior to or following XRT referral.

A small number of patients failed to have MRI scans within the target time frame, although it was noted that one of these was borderline (6.1 weeks). The remaining 3 patients should have had up-to-date MRI scans prior to their treatment planning.

Although only a small number of scans were considered to have breached the 6-week target, our aim is for compliance with this target in all patients and steps will need to be taken to work towards achieving this.

Imaging is routinely reviewed when patients are seen in clinic. The addition of a checklist in clinic specifically asking if an MRI scan has been done within 6 weeks may be beneficial to ensure the target is met. This will also prompt the clinician to request repeat MRI if a scan has not already been done within the target timeframe.
