Results: In total 337 patients were prospectively treated with primary (56%) or postoperative (44%) RT. Sixty-five percent being male and median age was 78 years [range 40-98]. Sixty percent (203/337) accepted cosmetic evaluation six months after RT. Patient, tumor, and treatment-related factors are shown in table 1. Overall, 157/203 patients (77%) reported their satisfaction with the cosmetic result: 146 patients (93%) were either very satisfied or satisfied with the cosmetic outcome, 7 patients remained indifferent and 4 were unsatisfied. This was not related to the modality of RT used (p=0.4). Patient satisfaction was highly correlated with the overall professional evaluation (p<0.001) as 90% of cases were described as having either no or minor skin changes in the radiation field when compared to the surrounding skin. In univariate analysis, patient satisfaction with cosmetic outcome was not related to age (p=0.3), sex (p=0.8) or total dose given (p=0.4). Any degree of telangiectasia was seen in 26% of the patients, chronic wound in 3%, severe color changes in 2% and severe fibrosis in <1%. Conclusion: Overall, patients were satisfied with the short-term cosmetic outcome six month after end of radiotherapy for head and neck skin SCC. Longer follow-up is warranted.
