Digital Poster A retrospective review of factors influencing the successful implementation of radiotherapy clinical trials (CT) in a new radiotherapy department. Karen P Molan, Erica Bennett, Mohd Samuji, Caoimhe Buckley, Paul J Kelly Radiotherapy, Bon Secours, Cork, Ireland Purpose/Objective: The radiotherapy CT portfolio at the Bon Secours Radiotherapy Cork commenced in 2021. The portfolio has expanded to include interventional trials, local and international academic trials, industry, and pharmaceutical sponsored radiotherapy clinical trials. CT are essential for advancing radiotherapy treatments and improving patient outcomes. The aim of this study is to assess the effectiveness of the screening and recruitment processes for radiotherapy CT at the Bon Secours Radiotherapy Cork, by reviewing key metrics, and exploring factors influencing the success of CT accrual.

Material/Methods: A retrospective review was conducted to evaluate the clinical trial portfolio from July 2021 to Dec 2023, table 1.

Key metrics reviewed were, the number of patients screened and randomised to a CT. Effectiveness was measured by participant retention and whether the target accrual was met. The screening process included; electronic prescreening prior to the patient's initial consultation review, consultant led CT specific patient information leaflet provision, and a telephone follow up call from the Clinical Research Radiation Therapist (RTT). The purpose of this call was to answer any questions and to alleviate concerns for the patient and their family/carers and to discuss further the role of the CT in their treatment management. Results: The screening process adopted was effective in identifying eligible patients, with a consistent number of patients' screened each year. The total number of patients screened & offered a CT as part of their treatment plan options were for 2021=44, 2022=33 and 2023=38. A significant increase in patient's recruitment into CT was observed in 2023 compared to 2021 & 2022, this is attributed to the introduction of a designated clinical research RTT and Data Manager.
