MRI alterations after PT compared to XRT was unfeasible due to the aforementioned heterogeneity. Thirteen studies directly compared PT and XRT, with mixed results depending on studied population, definition and MRI alterations investigated. Several studies explored the role of linear energy transfer (LET), as a surrogate for variable RBE, in post-PT MRI alterations, but findings remained inconclusive.
