After completion of his medical studies at the University of Antwerp, Belgium, Philip Poortmans trained in radiation oncology at the Middelheim and Vincentius Hospitals in Antwerp. After a short stay in Turnhout he started clinical activities in Tilburg, The Netherlands, in 1991. After chairing the department of radiation oncology of the Radboud UMC, Nijmegen, for two and half years, hemoved inMarch 2017 to the Institut Curie, Paris, France, to be fully engaged in the optimisation of the largest French radiation oncology department including its proton centre. Philip took on leading roles in ESTRO from2005 till 2008 as boardmember and from 2013 till 2017 as President. He is the current president of ECCO.
