JOINT SYMPOSIUM ESTRO-EORTC: New strategies for a clinical research partnership? 09:15 - 10:30  |  ROOM 116 In this joint ESTRO-EORTC session, three main topics will be discussed as areas of clinical research, focusing on state of the art and future perspectives, mainly considering current or potentially developing new areas of cooperation between ESTRO and EORTC. In particular: • For oligometastatic disease: is oligometastatic disease a distinct biological entity; prospective trials vs. registry trial; ESTRO-EORTC Oligocare project. • For chemo-beam combinations: general principles of association; challenges in conducting chemo-radiotherapy trials; PARP inhibition and RT. • For particle therapy: what’s currently being developed in Europe, with the opening of many new centers by 2018-2021, in spite of absence of level I evidence supporting this costly treatment modality; the reasons for the lack of evidence and how this should be corrected by performing appropriate clinical research in this field.

SYMPOSIUM Automatic planning – the challenges for success 09:15 - 10:30  |  ROOM 111

Recently, automated planning has received a lot of attention during congresses and in scientific journals. Evidence has been provided that autoplanning can result in higher and more consistent plan quality than conventional trial-and-error planning. Plan quality in autoplanning is independent of, or at least less dependent on, the skills of a manual planner or time allotted for planning. Relatively few departments do already use this promising technology clinically. Experiences of starting users differ from highly positive to critical. In this session, four experienced users will share their experiences. Apart from successes, they will explicitly also discuss the challenges that they encounter(ed).
