ESTRO Academic Award - JACK FOWLER UNIVERSITY OF WISCONSIN AWARD

Jenny Bertholet Department of Oncology, Aarhus University Hospital Aarhus, Denmark

Jenny was born in 1988 in Switzerland. She obtained her bachelor’s degree in physics from the Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) and discovered medical physics during her last year as an exchange student in Spain. Having decided to start a career in the field, she returned to Lausanne for her master’s degree in Physics with projects at the Centre Hospitalier Universitaire Vaudois (CHUV) and a minor in biomedical engineering. Her Master’s thesis on transit portal dosimetry at Varian Medical Systems Imaging Laboratory in Baden gave her valuable experience in the industry. In 2014, she left the lake and the mountains to pursue a PhD in Aarhus, Denmark, under the supervision of Prof Per Poulsen and Prof Morten Høyer. The topic was image-based motion monitoring in liver SBRT aiming to implement clinical online real-time motion monitoring on a conventional linac. Thanks to an excellent collaboration with the clinical team and academic partners in Washington University, St- Louis, this goal was achieved in the summer of 2017. Jenny successfully defended her PhD in November 2017. Currently a post-doc fellow at the Institute of Cancer Research, London, Jenny continues to address motion mitigation with online dose reconstruction and inter-beam replanning on the MR-linac in the team of Prof Uwe Oelfke. As soon as she gets the chance, she goes back home to the mountains for skiing or rock climbing. As an amateur contemporary dancer and modern art enthusiast, she is currently discovering and enjoying the vast cultural offerings of London.
