Course aim The use of protons and heavier ions is growing in radiation oncology. This course aims at enabling participants to understand the benefits and challenges of using particles in radiation therapy. Learning objectives After completing the course the participants will be able to: • Explain the differences between photons and different types of particles on amacroscopic and microscopic scale • Explain approaches in translating available photon-based evidence into particle practice. Who should attend? • Clinicians aiming to obtain an overview of the radiobiological background of particle therapy • Radiobiologists seeking information on current issues or planning to start experimental work in particle radiobiology • Physicists looking for the radiobiological background of particle therapy.
