of HRQoL over time. We also explored whether the course of HRQOL from 6 months to 2 years after treatment is influenced by personal and clinical factors at baseline, and psychological, physical, social, and lifestyle factors, HNC symptoms, and biomarkers of stress and inflammation, as measured at 6 months after treatment. Linear mixed models were used to test these hypotheses. Results showed that there was a significant change of HRQoL over time with worse scores at baseline and 3 months after treatment, after which HRQOL improved and remained steady over time from 6 months to 2 years after treatment. Multivariate analyses showed that muscle strength and symptoms of depression as measured at baseline were significantly associated with the course of HRQoL from diagnosis to 2 years after treatment, and that social contacts and shoulder problems as measured at 6 months after treatment were significantly associated with the course of HRQoL from 6 months to 2 years after treatment. This study contributes to guide the development of new treatment and supportive care options for HNC patients that aim to optimize HRQoL after HNC diagnosis and treatment.
