Quantitative Methods 2017
Meta-analysis • Systematic review: • 13 studies involving 3511 patients studied risk of HT vs gender. Of the 13 studies, 2 found a significant correlation with female gender being risk factor, 1 study saw a borderline association and the remaining 10 studies saw no association between gender and risk of HT • Meta analysis: • Female gender is risk factor for HT: OR=1.57, 95% CI: 1.30-1.88, p<0.00001 • “Discrepancy” between studies pure statistical coincidence (insufficient power) • No sign of heterogeneity!
