Purpose/Objective:
Oral cavity squamous cell cancers (OCSCC) are the second most common cancers in India. Surgery is the main stay of treatment. Numerous clinico-pathological factors play a significant role in determining the need for adjuvant treatment and the ultimate clinical outcomes.
Material/Methods:
We retrospectively evaluated the data of 256 patients with OCSCC treated with curative intent surgery from January 2017 to December 2019 at our institute. The demographic, disease and treatment related parameters, patterns of recurrence and survival outcomes were analyzed using SPSS.
Results:
Among 256 patients, the median age at presentation was 50.9 years (range 26-79). 204(80%) were males, 125(49%) patients reported to have addiction to tobacco and 53(21%) patients had co-morbid conditions. Primary site of tumour was gingivo-buccal-complex in 168(66%) patients, 210(82%) patients underwent modified neck dissection (MND). Mean T size was 2.9cm (range0.5-6.5), mean DOI was 9.5mm (range 1-40), 63(25%) of patients had grade 3 tumour. PNI and LVSI was positive in 156(61%) and 162(63%) patients respectively. Mean nearest and farthest resected margins were 5.8mm (range 0-25) and 15mm (range 2.5-45) respectively. 15(6%) patients had positive margin and 53(21%) patients had close margin. Bone and skin involvement were seen in 38(15%) and 9(3.5%) patients
